Accusations from Hell

AccusationOne of the most deadly and destructive forms of public discourse today is rooted and grounded in accusation. Accusation is the idea that someone has done something wrong, sinned or broken the rules without any clear and verifiable evidence, facts or truth to establish it. In a way, accusation has become the new public courtroom in America where everyone is on trial for something that goes against what the cultural agenda has established by the media and those in power. If someone dares to stand up for anything these days they are often torn apart under a torrent of media attacks, fake news and accusations by nameless sources with unproven facts. These personal attacks have changed the world as we know it, and the worst is yet to come.

Media attacks and accusations are all based on the premise that there is something "right" and something "wrong." Since the Lord has hardwired us for morality through the Law and our conscience, it is impossible to move totally away from morality on some level, however it might be manipulated. The goal of all accusation is to declare that someone is guilty in order to bring about public shame and destroy their voice in the public square.

The problem with the culture of accusation and personal destruction is that there is virtually no interest in the Lord or the real truth behind any of the accusations. For many in the media, politics and even the Church world, when a person is accused of something they are guilty. They are tried and executed without any due process or attempt to evaluate the truth or the facts. All that is necessary to destroy anyone today is just to make any public statement about them. If a person is accused of lying, cheating, committing adultery, molesting a child, inappropriately touching a woman, racism, homophobia, misogyny or any other issue they are often assumed to be guilty. Accusation thrives on the old adage of "where there's smoke there's fire." The public has largely come to believe that no one would make such accusations unless they were "true" at some level. Few ask further questions or demand the context and facts about the issue. People are normally too busy to take the time to investigate the issues and the media and/or culture moves them on to the next accusation. Hence our society is being systematically destroyed by the latest accusation from the last sound bite.

Now the Bible has a LOT to say about accusation. Most people fail to see that the entire concept of accusation without the truth or facts is a spiritual issue connected to the spiritual world of the devil and his people. The first accusation in the Bible was a lie from the devil in Genesis 3 that told Eve that God wasn't being truthful when the Lord told them they would die if they ate from the forbidden tree. The devil's accusation against the Lord as a liar and not trustworthy continues to this day. Many people still do not believe the Bible is true and try to misrepresent Christianity and its Gospel message. In some ways, there has never been a time when the Lord and His truth are under more accusation and misrepresentation than now. The goal, of course, has been to destroy the Lord, Israel and the Church.

When the Lord Jesus entered the world, He immediately fell under the power of accusation that was designed to destroy His Person and Work for our redemption from the devil and his lies. In John 8:41-52 our Lord is accused of being a sinner, having an illegitimate birth and being demon possessed by the media and people in power during His day. Our Lord lived under this constant accusation from the religious leadership about everything in His life and ministry. This false wave of personal attacks and accusations against our Lord continued until it finally led to the Cross.

The Bible tells us that the devil is the "accuser of the brethren" in Revelation 12:10. The Bible reminds us of the source of accusation and that it continues "day and night." That surely sounds like the current 24/7 news cycle. The devil is trying to make the world come under condemnation to turn away from the Lord. The devil does not want the world to trust the Lord or believe there are grace, forgiveness and mercy for sin in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The devil and his agents in this world are trying to define what is "right" and "wrong" and become the judge of those found guilty by them through accusation. In a way, the modern accusers in our world are trying to become "god" themselves with their control, manipulation of the truth and accusations against others.

As we watch this destructive rise of accusation taking hold of our world, we must realize that all of this is heading somewhere and is prophetically significant. The forces of accusation and personal destruction that are being directed against individuals, Israel and the Christian Church will eventually lead to the rise of the Antichrist. During that time, the world will live under a false narrative in which good is evil and evil is good. Anyone trying to stand up to this power will be destroyed by accusation and a legal system opposed to the truth. These days are nearing. Do you see them coming?

The Good News of the Gospel is that the Lord Jesus Christ came to destroy the soul-stealing power of accusation and sin from our lives and this world through the wonderful Cross. The world wasn't created to live and die with sin, lies and accusation. The Lord came into this world to save us from sin. Once we have found this grace and this freedom we are free to live out our lives with joy, peace and love. May we all live out our lives in the freedom that only the Lord Jesus can give now and forever.
