What is Really Happening?--Understanding America’s Cultural Revolution

Written by Jeff Carlson on .

Chairman MaoAs Americans stand by and watch our society being destroyed one statue at a time, there seems to be no end to this movement of chaos and mindless mayhem. As a matter of fact, while I am writing this article, a band of people are trying to tear down a statue from the Civil War in Allendale, Michigan, a short distance from my house.  It almost seems as if this growing movement of lawlessness and wanton violence against our history as a nation, monuments and statues will not be satisfied until America has literally been leveled by this "scorched earth" agenda. The twisted narrative driving this tells us that America is supposedly an evil and "racist nation" and there must be a revolution to change it and make it right...or else. Of course, no one has the slightest idea of what that "new" nation might look like, but why bother with details at this point. Just burn the place down, destroy any remnant of "racism," however you do it...and we will rebuild something better to replace it later...maybe.

Now as this chaos continues to unfold, I think most Americans are shocked and largely clueless about what is going on. Most Americans have never had anybody really explain to them the cultural earthquake that is underway in our nation. But if you stop for a moment and think about what has been happening to America the last 50 years or so it will all start to make sense. Most of us missed the current narrative we are seeing unfold as it was quietly growing. We didn't want to think it might be serious. We hoped it would go away. We weren't sure how to fix it. So we said and did nothing!

You see what has been happening to America the last 50 years or so is that we have unwittingly been birthing a new cultural revolution in our midst, as America has been changing since the 1960's. The foundation of this new revolution is rooted and grounded in moving away from the Lord, our Biblical roots and Constitutional foundations. In its place we have been trying to create a new society based on "social justice," "political correctness" and "equality for all"...whatever any of those terms really mean. It seems an entire generation or two has been drinking up the Kool-aid" of that kind of thinking while most of us were asleep thinking and hoping all was well.

The place where all those revolutionary ideas have been incubated and quietly growing was on our college and university campuses. Our higher education system was once the place where America's "best and brightest" were being trained to lead us forward. But it turns out now, looking back, that such a thought has been an illusion. Instead, those hallowed halls of learning have been turned into centers of indoctrination and propaganda that most of us didn't know anything about. Meanwhile, parents and students have been borrowing billions of dollars and sending in their tuition checks to these once honored halls of "learning" thinking a better education was the key to the American dream and a good life. The reason many of us believed that was because at one time that was true for many Americans, especially after World War II. Right after the war, nearly 8 million returning soldiers used the G.I. Bill to help pay for and get a better education. America was filled with optimism for the future and saw education as the way to build a better life for everyone. However, eventually the World War II generation gave birth to a new generation called the "Baby Boomers"  and everything started to change in the 1960's...... but we didn't see it coming.

Now the way we know all of this has been happening is that we started to really examine the thinking of the professors and teachers at these schools over the past 50 years or so. You might not be shocked to learn that over 80% of them had/have a Socialist and/or Communist worldview. It turns out that few of them ever had a real love for America or our history.  Many or most of them never served in the military.  Sadly, their beliefs, writings, books and influence reflected an antipathy to much of what our nation stood for from the beginning. Many of them were secularists,  agnostics or even atheists. Few attended any church. As a result, it is almost rare today to find an openly evangelical Christian member of a faculty anywhere...even at supposed "Christian colleges." You will virtually never find a tenured member of any school who is a Republican or who speaks out about conservative political ideas like being pro-life or the traditional family unit.

And while it might be hard to admit this, these facts overwhelming point out that our higher education system has been streaming their ungodly worldviews of secularism, socialism, Marxism and Communism to our kids for years and years under the radar of us all.  Tragically, this pattern of educational indoctination was also happening in our elementary and preparatory schools as well.  Most parents often knew little about this phenomenon until their kids came home from these schools and were "different." No longer did many of them love America, support our free enterprise system, Constitution or care about our Founding Fathers like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Holidays like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July didn't mean much to our youth.  So as the statues of Washington and Jefferson are being torn down by mobs of younger people can we be surprised? They are just doing what they were taught to do at school. They know nothing else because no one ever told them to love anything else, other than the "party line" of the left. Social Marxism started to be their new "gospel" and "worldview".

As a pastor of many young people that grew up in my church, I can tell you that some of them walked away from the Lord after a couple of years of being "educated" by such professors and teachers. Can we be surprised then that many of these young people came to think that Christianity was just for older, white privileged hypocrites that didn't care about people or bringing "social justice" to all...forget the Lord and the Gospel. The list of propaganda and brainwashing that has happened and is happening on these campuses is simply incredible. Whoever thought you might end up paying $30,000-$40,000+ a year to help destroy your life, family, future and nation and still leave these Marxist schools with a mountain of debt for years?

So, when the sad death of George Floyd took place at the hands of police in Minnesota a few weeks ago, it was part of a much, much deeper narrative that has been building for two generations. Mr. Floyd's death was just a needed match to start a bonfire to burn down a nation that according to some has always been filled with injustice and racism from its founding. But how did people learn or come to know that America was such a terrible place, when the facts show just the opposite? Well, the answer to that question is easy... They learned it at the "best" schools.

As a result, the current chaos we are seeing today has little to do with bringing racial justice to America or the cause of African Americans or anyone for that matter. It has everything to do with connecting to a Socialist/Communist narrative given out at our schools and on our campuses that is believed by our leaders in the schools, media, government and even in the Church. No surprise then to learn that Black Lives Matter and other anarchist groups like Antifa are openly Marxists and revolutionary by their own admission.  Such information is available from their own website and they make no attempt to hide their agenda.  For them the real cultural revolution has finally started...and it is about time. Who cares about George Floyd now, when there are much bigger causes at stake?

One of the things to remember about any revolution, even the one under way now in America, is that such things always have historical roots that we can study to learn how well they did. The best revolution to study right now for us is the one started by the Chinese Communists under Mao Zedong. It was called the "Cultural Revolution" and its goal was to destroy all remnants of past Chinese culture and replace it with a pure form of Communism to start things in China over. This is what Wikipedia says about it,
The Cultural Revolution, formally the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, was a sociopolitical movement in China from 1966 until 1976. Launched by Mao Zedong, the Chairman of the Communist Party of China (CPC), its stated goal was to preserve Chinese Communism by purging remnants of capitalist and traditional elements from Chinese society, and to re-impose Mao Zedong Thought (known outside China as Maoism) as the dominant ideology in the CPC.
As the Cultural Revolution unfolded a lot of people got in Mao's way...millions and millions of them. Most of them were starved, murdered and tortured to bring the new China into being. China could not go backwards. China had to start over. All the old thinking, statues, books and history of China before Mao had to be eliminated. If anyone showed any signs of resisting this agenda on any level in thought, word or deed they were marginalized or outright imprisoned and killed. The fear in China during this time was just incredible because no one really knew what was acceptable. As the millions died under this "scorched earth" of the Communists, Mao Zedong became China's new "god". Eventually everyone had to read their new "bible" which was called Mao's "Little Red Book" that defined their new reality of what was right, wrong and acceptable. Mao's Cultural Revolution unleased a wave of tyranny, suffering, brutality and murder that is perhaps without equal in world history. But as we stop and take a deep breath about this horrible period of human history, we can easily forget that Mao just wanted to bring "social justice" to the Chinese people and make everyone "equal."

One might think that after what happened in China, and from America's two wars against Communism in Korea and Vietnam that cost about 95,000 American soldiers lives, our nation might have learned something to stop the current chaos underway. But then again, we have forgotten who has been running our schools the last 50 years. As a result, we can't be surprised that America's Cultural Revolution is under way.  Tragically, all of us paid top dollar for it as we supported our schools and higher education system so they could turned out their new generation of "woke" disciples. One of the first stated goals of this new revolution is to get President Trump out of office immediately, according to Black Lives Matter's own founding leadership. Once President Trump is gone, their next goal is to bring "social justice" to everyone using their takeover of the Democratic party and their corruption of our democracy, as it moves from being a Constitutional Republic to a mob. Are you ready for the "new" America?

Imagine for a moment waking up in a nation where you might be seen as a racist at any time for anything you say, believe or have done 20 years ago. Imagine waking up in a nation where you could lose your job or even life for saying something that offended someone. Imagine living in a nation without police or anyone to protect you, except certain groups that followed vague racial policy guidelines you never knew about or could vote on. Imagine for a moment you wake up and realize that the statue being built in the town square is that of Mao Zedong, where a statue of George Washington once stood, and you wonder if it was all a bad dream. That bad dream is underway right NOW for those not asleep.

Of course, at the heart of all Communism, is the removal of God and the nuclear family from society. God always just gets in the way and is their real competition. Every America needs to realize that these are the ultimate goals of any Marxist driven cultural revolution and they have never changed. If they can dethrone God, then anything can and will be done to anyone that stands in their way. The monuments, businesses and looted streets of America today are shouting for people to hear that exact message and wake up while we can.

In closing, I hope and pray that everyone today realizes we ALL need a Savior. People or politics can't save us, but Jesus can and will. Our Lord is THE answer to the real justice we are all looking for in this life. That justice happened on a cross. The cross is the ONLY hope and answer to every issue we face in this life and the next. May our Lord wake us up to this prophetic hour, so the Gospel can be shared in love and people can be saved with the time remaining. May it be so for the Lord and for His glory forever.
