God Almighty Speaks Out on the Media

Media CrossroadsWhatever the future holds for America, the Church and/or our lives, there is no question that the media will be a major instrument that the Lord will use to bring about that future plan. Right now, America is totally consumed with the media. In some ways, it has become our new national "drug" of choice. We seemingly can't escape it and its influence on our lives. Every day we are told 24/7 what to think, what to believe, what is right, what is wrong, what is good and what is evil. It is almost as if even the Lord doesn't exist anymore apart from a media's narrative that shapes people's view of everything...including God. It has often been said that "perception is reality" and that can be a true statement. People never act against their own beliefs and those beliefs may or may not have anything to do with truth or reality. So, if you want to know what people believe, or how they will act, just find out what the media told them to believe and do. Sadly, rarely do people listen to the Lord and His Word to understand the truth and realities of life. If people just read and studied the Word, like they listen to the media, we would be in a major revival.

Now the concept of the media has always been around from the Garden of Eden. In the Garden, the devil was the first member of the media, and acted as a mediator of truth and reality by calling God a liar and telling Adam and Eve they would not die when they disobeyed God's commandment. Nothing has changed! Today we are watching demonic power filling our culture and lives with lies as the media mediates and distorts truth and reality 24/7. Like the devil, which the Bible refers to as "the prince of the power of the air" according to Ephesians 2:2, the media controls our thinking and the world via the airwaves. The media has become the new expression of the "prince of the power of the air". The media has become the invisible power that works behind the scenes to influence everything.

The English word "mediator" means something or someone that stands in the "middle" of things. Ultimately, a mediator stands between the Lord and His truth for good or for bad. As a result, a mediator has the ability to totally turn lies into truth and truth into lies. It is that ability that allows good to become evil and evil to be good as we hear in Isaiah 5:20,
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light, and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
This is the great battle we are all currently engaged in...and it is growing in intensity. Have you noticed? The reason we see this battle raging with mediation and the media is because we are moving to the close of the age and the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. The devil knows his time to deceive the world is coming to an end in the near future, so there is a fury to it now as hear in Revelation 12:12,
Therefore rejoice you heavens and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.
The Bible's solution to this problem of mediation, and the need for a mediator, explains the entire reason for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Without the Lord being directly involved in this world as one of us, the truth would always be subject to sin and spiritual corruption. Our Lord represents God's truth for us in His very Person as fully God and fully man. Only God Almighty can protect His truth for us and stop the demonic mediation that started in the Garden. Hence, the entire Biblical narrative is centered on this issue and is witnessed to by an important verse found in I Timothy 2:5-6 that says,
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.
The Lord Jesus Christ stands in the middle between God and humanity to represent both and unite both in His person and work on the cross to bring about reconciliation and redemption. As a result, any attempt by anyone to mediate truth and reality in an ultimate sense, be it the media or even the church, is a potential counterfeit. The Lord may use the church and even media to bring truth to people, but because of sin that final work cannot be left in human hands alone. The Lord alone reserves His right and power of mediation to accomplish His redemptive purposes in Christ. If the Lord did not do that then redemption, truth and the restoration of humanity could not be guaranteed, and our future would never be certain.

All of this leads to a powerful way of understanding our salvation. We end up discovering that mediation is ultimately a Trinitarian work that involves Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Redemption is Trinitarian and not only brings glory to each person of the Godhead, but also insures that redemption is certain and outside of human sin. God the Father sent God the Son, in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, to represent Him and to accomplish the goal of salvation by paying for it. The Son mediates our redemption on behalf of God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit mediates and applies that redemption to our lives on behalf of God the Son. The Holy Spirit is the Hidden Person of the Godhead that brings truth and reality to the redeemed and shows us that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life for us as our Lord tells us in John 14:6. Without the Holy Spirit's work in our lives no one would know anything about the Lord Jesus Christ or understand anything about the redemption found in the cross and what it accomplished for us. Our Lord spoke about this mediation of the Holy Spirit in John 16:13-15 where we hear,
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.
Tragically, this glorious work of mediation that is being accomplished by the Lord for our salvation has its counterfeit in today's media and its exploding influence in our lives. Let's briefly examine that role as a key to understanding what is going on and our future as the Lord's people.

The key insight we need to understand the media's influence on us is to realize that it has a goal, a purpose and a reason for what it is doing each day. The media's agenda is NOT a coincidence or an accident. The media's ultimate goal is to create a world without the Lord in charge of it. That was the same goal the devil had in the Garden when he tried to be the mediator of reality back then. The media wants to bring that original demonic purpose to a final fulfillment now, as the Lord is being totally pushed out of life.

All of us have been living witnesses to this exact media strategy and agenda...how can we miss it? The media has demonized Christians, the church and any attempt to speak out about Biblical morality or live a godly life. It is virtually impossible today to be an outspoken Christian and run for public office. Anytime such a candidate arises and tries to speak out about the Lord, Christian morality, law or our godly heritage they are torn to pieces by relentless attacks from the media. All of these attempts are designed to portray Christians as "haters" and people who are "intolerant" and "unloving"....whatever that means. Such demonic attacks have greatly discouraged many good and godly people from even running for office or speaking out. We have been watching as this media mob has engaged in the personal destruction of anyone who dares to oppose their agenda of taking power and control over this world. In many ways, the media in America has become a sort of "terrorist" organization that uses fear to manipulate everything going on in our world today.

Now as the media has been pushing the Lord out of this world for quite a while now, they are also preparing it for the person they want to rule it...a secular, humanistic leader with demonic purposes to replace the Lord. That person is the Antichrist. It may shock people to realize that the Bible actually has a lot to say about him, even though you never really hear it...even in church. An excellent example of the Antichrist's coming power can be seen in Revelation 13:5-7 where we hear,
The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months. It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. It was given power to wage war against God's holy people and to conquer them.
Please notice here that the Lord Jesus Christ has been replaced with a counterfeit. This counterfeit takes control of the world and persecutes the Lord's people and seemingly conquers them. And while this passage's fulfillment is yet to come, in many ways those issues are taking place right now before our eyes. The world's media and culture has forced the Lord out of society on most levels from most schools to our political realm and we are now watching the Lord's people starting to be demonized with little fear of pushback.

This media blitz against our Lord and His people is especially intense because we are in an election year for the presidency. Real political power is on the line for the future and the battle lines are drawn. We have never witnessed such an intense battle for office in American history. However, once we know what demonic and spiritual powers are at work and what is at stake things begin to make sense. What we are witnessing is surely not about partisan politics or an election. The issues are much, much deeper and of course spiritual in nature. The question we face this year is the same one that was in question in the Garden. That great question comes down to who will rule the world. Will the world be ruled by fallen humanity and the lies in the Garden or by God? The media will make sure that few, if anyone, ever raise that question lest their agenda be named and revealed for what it is. Surely, whatever our political views, it is time for the redeemed to be wise and discerning as we head to the close of the age.

May the Lord's people shine out in this dark world as we see the powers of the demonic arrayed against the Lord and His everlasting purposes in the Lord Jesus Christ. May each of us speak the truth in love for our Lord and His Gospel and may this be a great hour for the true church in a world and sea of counterfeits all around us.
