What about Russia?

There seems to be no end to it. While volumes could be written about the current chaos with the Iran “deal,” there seems to be a close runner up. The runner up candidate goes to our dealings with Russia and their leader, Vladimir Putin.

A few years ago on March 6, 2009, then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, held a media event in which she presented the Russian diplomatic leader, Sergei Lavrov, a symbolic red button they were both to publicly push at a joint meeting. Pushing the red button was supposed to signify a new beginning of relations between the USA and Russia. It was as if all you had to do was push a button in front of cameras and world history and the Bible would be changed in a moment. It’s hard to believe people believe such things….but they do. Looking back now, most of the world realizes all of this was a silly publicity stunt which has now been shown to be very dangerous to the peace and security of the entire world.
Since that time, Mr. Putin and the Russians have done just about everything they can to bring back the Cold War. Several top military leaders in the USA have said that Russia is the greatest threat to our national security today. We are currently watching Mr. Putin lead Russia into a very aggressive expansion of their empire into the Ukraine, Syria, the Middle East and Europe. Mr. Putin has been very clear that he wants to restore the glory of the old Communist world once known as the U.S.S.R. Mr. Putin himself is a by-product of that system and its top-secret organization, the KGB. Putin has worked hard to display his leadership and masculinity lately. It is not uncommon to see him with his shirt off flexing his muscles for the cameras. The signals being sent couldn’t be clearer…. Russia is back! The only people that don’t seem to get it are politicians in the Obama Administration. Perhaps they are working on a bigger “reset button.”

Now as a Bible teacher, I am not concerned about some partisan political issue regarding the right foreign policy. Rather, what we are watching take place is far more than politics at work. We are actually seeing an amazing prophecy of the Bible being fulfilled before our eyes. You see the Bible is very clear that just before our Lord Jesus’ return, a coalition of Russia and Iran, along with other nations, would attack Israel. This invasion, outlined in Ezekiel 38-39, was written about 2,500 years ago. It describes nations coming together to expand their kingdoms and power at the expense of Israel and the rest of the world. We are watching this happening before our eyes. Russia and Iran have literally become best friends in this hour, and the USA doesn’t have a clue. The only nation that really knows what is going on in a military way is little Israel, the Land of the Bible…..what a coincidence.

You see Israel has seen this pattern before. Russia was the chief weapons and technology supplier and supporter of her enemies, sworn to her destruction, in her last two major wars in 1967 and 1973. Russia was the agent that supported her enemies before, and they can see the pattern emerging again. Russia has been supplying Iran with nuclear technology as well as sophisticated weapons for years, and that relationship is growing rapidly. Sadly, all the while the USA under President Obama has led our Nation to back away from Israel and support her enemies in the recent “deal” with Iran. Who could ever have imagined such a series of events? Only the Sovereign, loving Lord of all history could plan such a thing for our good and His glory. So in spite of the current chaos on the world stage, things are not really falling apart…they are falling into place. The eyes of faith see our wonderful Lord at work.

I find it sad that so few see any spiritual issues going on today with all of this chaos. Multitudes of churches and their leaders say nothing. Their silence is deafening. May the Lord’s people see the Hand of the Lord at work and honoring His Word. May we look up and see that our redemption is drawing near (Luke 21:28) and share the Gospel with those around us in this hour. People truly need the Lord, not another political “deal.”
