This past week and weekend may be remembered as a turning point in US and world history. That is not an overstatement. We have just witnessed major leaders in the free world bowing down before groups in the name of racial justice out of fear and political correctness. All over the world we are witnessing pictures of top officials and even heads of nations, such as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, bowing down to support the idea that everyone is a racist and that they must submit to someone's idea of how to define and respond to racism, irrespective of any truth, reality or clear facts. For some this appears to be the emerging "new normal" as Western Civilization seems to be crumbling before our very eyes. The last historical parallel to these events took place during the days of the invasion of Rome by the Visigoths led by King Alaric on August 24, 410. At that time, the once mighty Roman Empire was sacked by a group of barbarians that took over Rome and began to destroy the fading empire. Rome was never the same!
What started out as some local and national protests in response to the police abuse and killing of George Floyd, an African American man from Minneapolis, has turned into an overturning of the rule of law and Constitution with an agenda that virtually no one fully understands right now....by design. After all, if people really knew the agenda that is underway now these groups would lose their power and control over a clueless public. All that is known for sure, as of today, is that America and her leaders must bow down to this agenda, or there will be "hell" to pay. This cultural blackmail has led people to believe that they must bow down, or their homes, businesses, churches and lives will be destroyed...one way or another. And it is that "one way or another" threat that has gripped people with a collective fear like never seen before in American history. People are afraid that if they say "no" to anything, these forces will label them "racists" and use the full force of the media and these groups to attack them.
Now one might think that if we submitted to this agenda, whatever it might be, that those behind it would leave us alone and we would have "peace" and "racial justice" in our streets and America could somehow be restored. That belief is simply not true! As a case in point, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey thoroughly supported every demand and concern of those that have marched in the streets of his city and the nation the last couple of weeks. And yet, the moment the mayor told a large crowd that he would not disband the Minneapolis police force that protects his city he was viciously shouted down with curses and profanity.
Of course, if the Minneapolis police are not in charge of the city, someone else will be in charge that the people know nothing about. That was the plan from the beginning. Tragically, Mr. Floyd's death was just a pretext for the real goal of gaining political power.....And we are ALL seeing that now. The crowd's reaction to the Mayor's defiance of their demands was recorded for all to see...and everyone in America should see it. That video clip gives us a unique glimpse into the real agenda underway for America and where all of this will ultimately lead us as a nation. We learned in an unforgettable way that you can never satisfy a mob. Mayor Frey's duties and responsibilities to the citizens of Minneapolis, and even his life, didn't really matter at all to the mob...even though black lives were supposed to matter to him and everyone. His life didn't matter! Mayor Frey's life was just a tool for them to seize power by any means. The mayor's only response to this mob reaction to his resistance was to retreat like a bullied and scolded child and walk away. He said nothing more. What could he say.... they owned him.
One of the key things that should be pointed out in a clear way is that groups like Black Lives Matter and every other group behind this chaos have a thoroughly Marxist agenda they are seeking to impose on America one way or another. Consider the following written statement on Black Lives Matter's own website, blacklivesmatter.com, about their view of the family, the cornerstone of Western Civilization that was established by the Judeo/Christian view of life from the Bible.
We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and "villages" that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.
While many may not know this, Karl Marx and every Marxist group since have goals, whether publically stated or not, to remove God from society, along with the nuclear family. In their place, Marxism always substitutes a totalitarian community directed by a few strong individuals, along with a new "family" of likeminded people, whatever that means. Such groups have a disdain for the Lord and are threatened by the traditional family unit. Under such groups there is no Constitution and Bill of Rights. There is no room for the Church or anyone to have religious freedom that is not allowed by them and their control of society. If you wonder what happens to the Church, with Marxism in charge, just study what happened to churches and Christians in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution in 1917 and in other Communist regimes that took over other naive societies looking for "justice". Murder and mayhem become the "norm" because when God is gone, anything is possible.
What is so shocking about where we are tonight is that we have been here before as a nation and most of us have forgotten. America fought two wars in Korea and Vietnam to stop this same Marxism that is taking over Minneapolis and our beloved nation. Those wars led to the death of around 95,000 soldiers to stop it. Every time you drive your car around you will drive by a cemetery that contains the graves of soldiers that died to stop exactly what is going on in the streets of America. It was this same Marxism that allowed over 100 million people to be murdered during "peace time" in Marxist regimes in Russia and China. All those governments ever wanted to do was just make life "fair" and stop the "injustice" ... Sound familiar? The problem with Marxism for America, however, is that it is easier to see our enemy oversees than here at home. That truth always leads us to remember what happened to our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord's greatest threat wasn't Pilate... it was Judas and his team. And so it is today. America will never be defeated by our enemies abroad. America's greatest threats will always come from within.
So how did we get here? How did America's leaders start bowing down to an agenda that is working hard to destroy our nation? How did we start turning over our society to radical Marxist groups and ideology that is threatening our very lives and way of life without a shot being fired? How did we become so afraid as Americans that few of our major leaders will say anything against such things? Who can explain how there is so little truth about these threats being provided to us by our media and even our pastors and churches? How can such a great nation seemingly be fading away from its greatness without much of a battle or fight from the average person? These are the questions that EVERY American needs to ask right now...while we have time left to do so.
Of course, the answer to all of these questions is that the Lord has been pushed out of our nation and something else has replaced Him. Nature abhors a vacuum and history and the Bible teaches that no society will ever be left to nothing or pure secularism. Ultimately, something that is religious or spiritual in nature will replace the true Lord. Marxism is a secular religion and its followers are more zealous than most Christians. Unless the Church stands up in this hour and fills our cultural vacuum with the Lord, His gospel and truth, America as we know it will be swept away.
This exact same crisis took place during the days of Elijah in I Kings 17-19. The nation of Israel had drifted away from the Lord and the pagans, or prophets of Baal, simply took over. They took control of Israel and forced everyone to bow down to Baal and begin to serve him. The Lord used these chapters from Israel's history to teach the nations and America what would happen if the Lord is rejected and no one would lovingly bow to Him. The Bible teaches that everyone will ultimately bow to someone or something sooner or later, either the Lord or Baal. Those are the only two choices we have ever had before us. That is why Elijah challenges the people to make a choice one way or another in a very famous passage from I Kings 18:20-21 that says,
So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. Elijah went before the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him."But the people said nothing.
The battle in Israel came to a show-down between God and Baal, between good and evil, between heaven and hell. Who would win? What would happen? Elijah stood alone on the top of Mt. Carmel. The people of Israel said nothing. They had been living with doubt and fear for years and Baal had taken over their nation with his prophets. The truth about the Lord had been lost and only a remnant of people had remained faithful amidst overwhelming odds all around them. Elijah stood alone confronting this evil and the Lord showed up with one of the greatest displays of power in the Bible and vaporized the sacrifices on Mt. Carmel to establish that He alone was Lord of all in I Kings 18:36-39,
At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: "Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, Lord; answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again."Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, "The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!"
Right now, tonight in our nation, America needs an "Elijah Moment". Every true Christian needs an "Elijah Moment". Our nation needs to stop wavering in the face of an evil agenda with fear. Either God is God, or He is not and if not, we need to bow to Baal and serve him. You might find it interesting that the day the sacrifices were consumed on the top of Mt. Carmel was the same date on the calendar the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins as the Way, the Truth and the Life. Our Lord is the only Lord and there is no other in this life or the world to come. One day soon the Lord Jesus Christ will break forth from the heavens and bring His glorious plans to a final fulfillment. In that future Day, every knee will bow to Him and Him alone. The Apostle Paul reminds us of that coming Day in Philippians 2:8-11 where we hear,
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledges that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
If there was ever a time to stand up for Jesus it is NOW! We will not have another time as a nation to do that before He comes. The Lord told Elijah that he was not alone in the chaos, but that the Lord had 7000 people in Israel that has not bowed to Baal (I Kings 19:18). There is still a faithful remnant to the Lord in America today. May each of us be found in that remnant as we stand up for Jesus as His people in this dramatic hour of history.
