The Real Class Warfare

One of the major signs a culture is in crisis and nearing a fall is when the public is divided by their leadership. As our Lord Jesus said, “Every kingdom divided against itself cannot stand” (Matthew 12:35). In the last few years, America and Europe have increasingly been prodded by their progressive governments into what we call “class warfare.” Class warfare divides a society into the “haves” and the “have nots,” the rich and the poor. The public is then indoctrinated to believe that their society can only be just and fair IF the government is allowed to transfer wealth from one group to another.

The first time there was an attempt to redistribute wealth from rich to poor took place days before our Lord’s passion. As our Lord was getting ready to die for the sins of the world, Mary poured an expensive perfume on His feet to prepare our Lord’s body for burial. Judas Iscariot got angry and indignant about this waste and wanted to give the money to the poor. However, the Bible tells us that Judas did not really care about the poor because he was a thief (John 12:2-8). This story from the Bible provides an important insight into the whole history of wealth redistribution. At its root is a demonic spirit that cares little for the poor. Its ultimate goal is gaining power over others and attacking the Lord. History establishes this truth over and over again.
The modern roots of this “Judas spirit” against the Lord and His purposes can be seen in the writings and life of Karl Marx. Marx’s goal in his influential work Das Capital was to create class warfare and eliminate the whole concept of the rich and replace it with an egalitarian socialist or communism society directed by the State. What most people missed with Marx is that his real goal really had nothing to do with wealth redistribution to make a society more just and fair. Marx’s ultimate goal was a spiritual and demonic attack against Lord. Marx believed that religion and a belief in God were the “opiate of masses,” and they needed to be removed by any means. Marx’s thinking laid the groundwork for the systematic control by governments over their populations, leading to the murder of over 100 million citizens during the twentieth century in atheistic places such as Russia, China, North Korea, and Viet Nam.

However, as you dig a little deeper and discern this attempt to destroy the rich by any means you see the roots behind our fallen world and the human condition today. The first Rich Person in the world was the Lord. The devil wanted to be like the Lord and gain control of His Kingdom, ultimately leading a rebellion in the spiritual realm to get it (Revelation 12:7-9). We all live downstream of that spiritual battle today and we see its effects everywhere.

Make no mistake, friends. All of the “class warfare” talk and political rhetoric is spiritual in nature. It is not about fairness or justice. It is about power and the control over others. Some of this even gets directed toward scapegoating the Jews. Since the Lord Jesus was the richest Jew that ever lived, you might be able to see the source, as in the days of Judas… the devil! Both then and now.

Without discernment and insight into the spiritual war going on around us, we will just be left with politics. You can’t fight a battle unless you know who your enemy is. May we know ours in this hour.
