The Resurrection of Karl Marx

Written by Jeff Carlson on .

Karl MarxWe are living in an incredible time. At the heart of the drama unfolding today is watching America fighting for its identity as a Nation. Every day there seems to be a new battle going on that is intent on dividing Americans and weakening our Nation on the world stage. Sadly, these battles seem to be largely coming from inside our Nation rather than from other nations. It is a spiritual and political war that has largely been created by the American media and progressive political leaders that is dividing the public against itself. This growing division has increasingly become more emotional, rancorous and mean-spirited by the day. As a result, our civil discourse seems to be at an all-time low. It is almost as if there is a new Civil War going on right before us.

Now this past week offers us an excellent example of this growing division at work. The current battle we are told is over the supposed outside influences of Russia on our Nation's democracy, elections and President Trump's decisions and judgment. These issues have gone on a couple of years now and the amount of time and energy they consume in our public discourse is just incredible. We seem to be hearing about this "Russian hacking" of America narrative 24/7, but does anybody really know what this is all about? Are there any answers that will help the average person make sense of things? As we turn to history, informed by the Bible, we will find that there are some clear answers to be found.
With all the drama going on today about Russia's supposed influence on our Nation, many have forgotten why Russia has always been considered such a threat to our Nation in the first place. The historic conflict between Russian and the USA was never over the fact that Russia had nuclear weapons and didn't like us. The real issue has always been that Russia was a nation and political system built on Marxist principles. Karl Marx was a philosopher from the 19th century (1818-1883) that wanted to eliminate God from society, change the family structure, dismantle Capitalism and bring everyone into some sort of populist utopia. Marxism, or Communism as it was later called, first took hold of Russia during the Russian Revolution that began in 1917, during the chaos caused by World War I. After a bitter internal fight within Russia, the Communists eventually took control of the government and brought in a totalitarian regime that utterly changed the face of Russia. This Russian-led Communism was exported all over the world for the past 100 years to places like China, Korea, Vietnam, Cuba and a host of other nations. In every nation where Communism was exported it led to economic chaos, political oppression, the removal of religious freedom, persecution of the Christian Church and the death and murder of over 100,000,000 of its own citizens during "peacetime." It is not an overstatement to say that Communism has created more death and suffering than any political or economic system in human history.

Sadly, a majority of Americans have even forgotten that about 100,000 America soldiers died in the Korean and Vietnam wars to stop the spread of Communism. America's fear about Communism influencing our Nation was very strong during the 1950's, resulting in what we called "The Cold War," a war that continues until today. Some of us reading this article may even remember the "Civil Defense Drills" that most American schools participated in during the 1960's that were conducted in case of a nuclear war between the Russians and the USA.

Fast forward to 2018 and it appears Russia as a nation is still an enemy to be feared, but Communist, Marxist and Socialistic philosophies have been mainstreamed in American life. Our last Presidential election saw Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders running for office, a first to do so. This growth of socialism continued with the recent primary victory on June 26 in New York's 14th Congregational District with the upset win of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over long term Congressional Representative Joe Crowley. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. So, this growing trend, along with about 58% of our millennial generation of voters that seem to be sympathetic or favorable to socialistic ideas and candidates, is creating a dramatic change in how people see America. As a result, our battles with Marxist philosophies have really just begun.

However, long before we started to see Socialism/Marxism/Communism growing in our political landscape it had taken deep root in our educational systems and schools over the last 100 years. Most American's may not have heard of John Dewey who was considered the "Father of American Education." He has had an incredible influence on how American schools began to transform the American mind toward Marxist rooted philosophies. In an article by attorney and author Ellis Washington, we hear some thoughts on the depth of Marxist influence in our Nation that has come from Dewey and others toward our schools. He writes,
Conservative intellectual Dr. Thomas Sowell, in a recent column, "Teaching Americans to hate their country,'" made the historical observation about how 100 years ago progressives like John Dewey of Columbia University changed the American education paradigm whereby teachers were no longer considered "the transmitter of society's culture" (as they have been for roughly the past 6,000 years) but activist "agents of [progressive, socialist] change," as evidenced by the way most Americans have been happily educated inside its Marxist propaganda factories called "public schools."

John Dewey (1859-1952) was the father of the modern American public school system, a leading progressive who promoted the philosophy of pragmatism and an activist for secular humanism in American society. Dewey was also an original signatory of the "Humanist Manifesto" and ridiculed moral absolutes and traditional religion, especially Christianity in favor of an evolution/atheist worldview.
Hence the sober and disturbing reality, that we aren't hearing today, is the fact that the Russians have been "hacking" our Nation for about 100 years through Marxist rooted thinking that has been operating within our academic communities. The evidence for this is overwhelmingly clear for anyone looking at the current state of our schools. Sadly, it is almost impossible to even mention God in our public schools these days without fear of job loss or litigation. John Dewey's goals of removing God from our schools and society and replacing the Lord with progressive thinking, socialism and/or Marxism have been wildly successful. American colleges and universities are modern hotbeds of this thinking that has pushed many toward rejecting our economic system and a Judeo-Christian worldview, all designed to bringing about some new, progressive order...some resurrected form of Marxism. It is this thinking that has shaped and empowered much of the media in America today and created the rapid growth of progressive political division that is attempting to take control of the Nation and move it away from the Constitution toward humanism.

So it is this collision of worldviews in Washington right now that really explains the current battles in America. The real battle is NOT with the Russians, but with one another, a new American Civil War that will ultimately define our future as a Nation. Those currently attempting to divide our Nation are seeking to conquer it and bring about a new worldview based on secular humanism, the real philosophy behind Marxism. The ultimate goal of the secular humanist then, like Karl Marx before them, is to push the Lord and the Constitution out of America and replace it with a godless system of economic redistribution with the State preeminent and the Lord and His Church silenced, out of the way or gone.

As we look at this current Civil War in America that continues to grow, few have any idea of what is really going on. We are immersed in a tremendous spiritual battle between the powers of Heaven and Hell that is drawing in the whole world. It is not about politics. It is ultimately about whether God or Man rules the world. Without the Bible and the Lord's purposes for us in the Lord Jesus Christ there is no way that any of us could make sense of this current drama. As Christians we know the Lord is working out His eternal purposes for our good and we rejoice that one day soon the Lord will return and restore the world to His wonderful original purposes for humanity. It is time for the Church to share the Gospel with everyone we can and be reminded that humanity can never create Heaven on Earth without the Lord. Karl Marx is dead and buried in London, but our Lord is gloriously resurrected and lives forever more.

May the Lord encourage every heart in this hour and may this be the Church's finest hour in the days ahead.
